My Story

About Megan

MBA WSET Level 3 | B. Comm

Hi! My name is Megan Jackson, and I am a total wine and spirits nerd.

It all began when I was 22 and lived in Glasgow.  Since Scotland is known as the birthplace of whisky, I made it my goal to learn everything I could about the spirit, it's history, and cultural significance.  I started to notice the nuances that set each distillery’s whisky apart, the regional differences, and production practices and became obsessed with discovering the next hidden gem.  This discovery of whisky and my desire to learn turned my attention to wine, and I quickly fell in love with the endless possibilities that wine has to offer.

In my undergrad, I earned a Bachelor of Commerce focusing on Hotel & Food Administration from the University of Guelph.  I learned the science and art of the hospitality business.  My favourite courses were Wine & Oenology, Beverage Management, Food Science, and Restaurant Operations.  I also took Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) courses and earned my Level 1 in Wine, Level 1 in Spirits, Level 2 in Wine & Spirits, and Level 3 in Wine.  After graduating, I began working at a winery in the Niagara region and continued cultivating my passion for wine and wine business.  During my time at the winery, I loved hosting wine tastings and helping people try new things and find wines they love.  From novice wine drinkers to wine connoisseurs, I found that there is always something new to learn and try.

Developing Flavor & Passion

This experience in presenting wines developed another passion – teaching.  However, I knew I wanted to take the arrogance out of wine and make it approachable to everyone.  Whether a person thinks they only enjoy Moscato, red wine – or are just beer drinkers! – I knew that if they kept an open mind to try new things, I could  find them a wine they would enjoy.

Several years later, I finished my MBA from McMaster University which helped me further develop my business skills and create my personal brand.  I realized that my talent for teaching and passion for wine could help others build a wine cellar that they enjoy, understand, and satisfies their own goals.  Not arbitrary goals they think they need to have, but ensuring they get the best value, the best tasting experience, and truly enjoy their wine.  My goal with each client is to understand their taste preferences, make suggestions that expand their palate and aligns with their budget, as well as provide selection guidelines for various wine occasions like Tuesday pizza night, fancier coursed meals, or cocktail hour with friends.

Wine Futures

Now, my husband and I enjoy going to the wine store to find new wines to try, from everyday value wines to the nerdier, out-of-the-ordinary varieties.  My husband is a wizard in the kitchen and a bartender extraordinaire.  Our favorite thing to do together is entertain friends and family to share our passions for great drinks and food.  We love how these things bring people together and create memories that can be relived every time that bottle is uncorked.

With this knowledge and passion for people and wine, I began Cuvée Wine Consulting.  I focus on creating realistic and attainable goals for wine cellar management for any budget and always have a sense of humor during my wine tastings.

I would love the opportunity to connect with you to help you achieve all your wine goals!
